Syracuse, N.Y. Stephen Thompson, son of the former Syracuse basketball star of the same name, has committed to Oregon State, various media outlets are reporting.

Stephen Thompson, the athletic forward who ranks seventh on the all-time Orange scoring list with 1,956 points, was named an assistant coach to new Oregon State head coach Wayne Tinkle on June 19. Thompson had been the head coach at Cal State-Los Angeles for nine years but was fired after his Division II team went 15-12 last season, according to reports at oregonlive.com.

Stephen Thompson Jr. is a four-star Class of 2015 guard ranked No. 55 nationally by ESPN. He attends Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, Calif.

Oregon State, too, got another recruiting boost when Wayne Tinkle's son, Tres, announced he, too, would play for the Beavers. ESPN ranks Tres Tinkle, a forward, No. 45 nationally in the Class of 2015.
