Arizona State is among the latest to extend a basketball scholarship offer to Tempe Corona del Sol sophomore Alex Barcello, who received six offers in two days this week.
ASU, Utah and St. Mary’s College all offered a day after Barcello received scholarship offers from Providence, Oregon and DePaul, giving the 6-foot-2 scoring point guard 14 total offers.
Another one, which his father Edward described as a “big one,” could be coming Monday.
Barcello now has offers from both Arizona and ASU.
He averaged a little more than 20 points a game and made All-Arizona last season, helping Corona del Sol capture its fourth consecutive Division I championship.
“I just thank God for all of the offers,” said Alex, who impressed in April showcases in Dallas and Indianapolis, averaging 24 points in the Adidas Gauntlet Series, playing for Damin Lopez, who is leading the Team Bayless team. “It just makes me want to work harder.
“All of these offers just pushes me harder and harder in the gym to be a better player.”
Barcello is using this month to get into the weight room and mix in basketball.
ASU coach Bobby Hurley also recently offered a scholarship to sophomore point guard Markus Howard, who also made All-Arizona last season at Gilbert Perry, where he averaged a state-best 32.4 points a game.
Howard, who will play next season at Las Vegas Findlay Prep, decommitted from ASU in March, before Herb Sendek was fired.
