AGH basketball: Boys Player of the Year Carsen Edwards

Atascocita wasn't on the high school basketball radar before the season, but junior point guard Carsen Edwards put it there by playoff time, averaging 23 points, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game while leading it to the top of the 6A rankings. The Eagles eventually fell short of their ultimate goal - the program's first trip to state - but they went 35-2 and reached the regional finals for the second straight season.

Q: Have you recovered from the way your season ended yet, with a 79-74 loss to unranked Irving MacArthur?

A: I'm somewhat recovered, but still sometimes I'm really not. I guess I won't until next basketball season. That's when I'll be fully recovered. But I'm able to sleep a little bit better now.

Q: Taking a tough ending out, how good was this season for the Eagles?

A: It was a great season. For us all to come together, and build so much chemistry throughout this year, it was great. I loved everyone on our team, so this was a great season. I really liked it and enjoyed it.

Q: What is your favorite moment from this season?

A: We had such big wins at the beginning of the year, especially with people doubting us, so that's probably my highlight for the year.

Q: What are you most proud of accomplishing individually?

A: I'm probably most proud of just being recognized. Going into this year, I had no colleges looking at me, and things like that, so to be recognized now is a highlight.

Q: How much are you looking forward to your senior season?

A: I'm looking forward to it a lot. I feel I still have so much to prove, and I want to do even better than we did last season, as a team and personally, as a player.

Q: The college scholarship offers are pouring in now, with Houston, Rice, Baylor, Tulsa and Lamar all offering you. How important is this summer and next season in determining your future?

A: It's going to be very big, especially this summer, especially in July, and the tournaments we play in. It will be a very big summer for me to play well and perform.

Q: With several offers in hand, are you leaning any particular direction at this point?

A: I'm not going to say too much about that yet.
