Georgios Tsalmpouris is turning pro.
“We are happy for Georgios and his family that he’ll have the opportunity to realize his dream of playing professionally,” Iowa State coach Steve Prohm said said in a press release. “We appreciate his contributions to the program. Georgios will always be a Cyclone and we wish him the best at the professional level.”
The eurohoops web site, first reported Monday the 7-foot-1 Greek isn't returning for his sophomore season at Iowa State.
". . . .is ready to turn pro," according to the web site.
The web site says Tsalmpouris has agreed to a deal with AEK BC. It goes on to say that one of the reasons Tsalmpouris made this decision was because Fred Hoiberg is now coaching the Chicago Bulls. Hoiberg recruited Tsalmpouris.
Prohm, whose Cyclones are 2-1 during a series of games in Spain, said two weeks ago that he was uncertain if Tsalmpouris would return to campus after returning home for the summer.
Tsalmpouris' departure isn't a major loss, considering he played in just eight games—and none after Feb. 14.
