Harry Giles III, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2016, has scheduled his five official visits, his father told CBSSports’ Jon Rothstein. A decision could come in the fall.
Three of the five are to schools within his home state of North Carolina, although Giles will play his senior season at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. The others are Kansas and Kentucky, certainly no slouches.
“I talk to the coaches all the time, of course; I feel like we all have great relationships,” Giles wrote in his blog for USA TODAY High School Sports. “Coach K always keeps me laughing, Coach Cal is cool, Coach Williams is funny, Coach Self is cool and Coach Manning is cool too. I feel like we all have great relationships, which will make my decision a lot harder.
“I don’t think I’ll cut my list again; I think the next announcement will be where I’m going.”
Where this could get interesting is whether Giles and Jayson Tatum end up being a “package deal.” Tatum already has committed to Duke and Duke is planned as Giles’ final visit.
“It’s definitely still a possibility,” Giles told USA TODAY High School Sports earlier this month when asked about teaming up with Tatum. “My man Jay had to do what he had to do because he felt the time was right. I understood. I’m definitely looking at the other schools on my list just as hard though. We’ll see what happens. We’re best friends so I literally talk or text with him a few times a day.”
