Boys’ basketball: Bishop Montgomery is expecting big things from two freshmen

Chino Hills and Sierra Canyon are the consensus top two teams in high school basketball for the upcoming season, but don’t forget about Bishop Montgomery, the defending Southern Section Open Division champion.

Bishop Montgomery lost to graduation point guard Stephen Thompson (now at Oregon State), but Coach Doug Mitchell has no problem turning to freshman Gianni Hunt, who’s 6 feet 1 and did well in summer ball.

“He’s going to be a great player,” Mitchell said.

Another freshman expected to play lots of minutes is 6-5, 220-pound Will Crawford.
