Aggies guard Reese suspended for rules violation

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M basketball is off to a bad start – and the season has yet to begin. Sophomore guard J-Mychal Reese has been suspended for violating athletic department rules and regulations, the university announced tonight.

Reese started 25 of 33 games last season as a touted freshman out of Bryan High, and averaged 6.2 points and 1.9 assists. His father, John Reese, is an A&M assistant under third-year coach Billy Kennedy. The Aggies are facing Texas-Permian Basin in A&M’s lone exhibition game tonight in Reed Arena, before opening their season on Nov. 8 against Buffalo.

A&M made the NCAA tournament from 2006-11 under former coaches Billy Gillispie and Mark Turgeon, but hasn’t made the postseason in Kennedy’s first two years. Reese’s suspension is expected to be between two and three games.
